The Naadam Festival is a highly anticipated event for both locals and athletes and one of the most interesting national holidays, having
been celebrated for centuries. The festival consists of wrestling, archery and horse racing, which was held by military generals and kings after a battle to celebrate victory and to show Mongolian military power. Winning one of these competitions receives nation wide recognition, honor and respect which is what the wrestlers, racers and archers train hard all year around for this once a year event.
The opening ceremony starts with bringing the 9 white flags from the Parliament building followed by artists, gymnastic, singing performances. You will have a chance to try Mongolian khuushuur (deep fried meat pocket) and stroll through the archery competition that takes place just outside the stadium.
